Three pirates have reportedly been killed in a gunfight among themselves on a Ukrainian ship they hijacked off Somalia's coast. None of the 20 crew was apparently injured in the shooting.
An offical of an East African maritime group said there was a shootout on board the Faina because of a disagreement between the gunmen over what to do with the cargo of tanks and weapons. The pirates are demanding a 20 million dollar ransom but the cargo has attracted naval ships from several countries, including the US. Washington is concerned the Faina's payload is intended for South Sudan, in possible violation of a peace accord.
