The European Commission has told the United States to live up to its special responsibility to solve the global financial crisis.
A Commission spokesman said the European Union was disappointed at the US House of Representatives vote to reject a 700-billion-dollar bailout plan and to act quickly. Lawmakers in Washington are to reconvene later in the week to find a rescue package solution. US Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson said Congress must act fast, saying world markets are "under stress." Despite New York's Dow Jones Industrial Average shedding seven percent after the rejection, European indices have pared opening losses and many are in positive territory.
