US candidates make Latino appeals ... have clashed over taxes, the war in Iraq and energy, in their first televised debate.
Obama layed the blame for the US's current state of affairs on its Iraq policy. The debate also focused on the current global financial crisis. Most US media stopped short of declaring one or the other candidate outright winner. Despite occasional barbs, both men worked to keep a civil tone, which the media called a welcome relief from the campaign's previous nastiness.
