The Belgian-Dutch financial service provider Fortis has announced plans to sell large sections of its operations.
The group, which had initially denied a liquidity bottleneck, says it is sacking CEO Herman Verwilst in response to a further 20-percent drop in the value of its shares. The Belgian government has called on investors and bank customers to remain calm.
