The Pakistani army says it has found the wreckage of a suspected US spy plane near the Afghan border, but blamed a malfunction not ground fire for the crash.

The incident comes just two days after Pakistani troops opened fire on two US helicopter gunships that crossed into Pakistani airspace in North Waziristan. On September 3, South Waziristan was the scene of the first officially acknowledged operation by US forces on Pakistani soil, in which 15 people were killed. The recent incidents have inflamed tensions between the two nations.
