A German hostage and his Somali wife have been freed in the northern Somali province of Puntland.
It is unclear whether police secured their release through negotiations or a raid. The couple were seized from their vehicle in the port town of Bossaso on Saturday. They had been there for several weeks visiting the woman's family. Kidnapping westerners for ransom is rife in Somalia, where the national government is fighting an Islamic-militant insurgency.
