Cuba has issued a hurricane watch for its eastern provinces ahead of Hurricane Ike, which after weakening earlier in the day has now increased to a grade three storm with winds of up to 185 km per hour.
Tropical Storm Hanna on Saturday made its way across the south-eastern US, battering the coast with waves, rain and wind. Hanna made landfall on the North and South Carolina coastline after leaving up to 500 dead on the Caribbean island of Haiti. Flooding and landslides are expected to leave as many as 200,000 inhabitants with little or no food or water.
