The government has denied any wrongdoing with problems with registration lists cited as the main cause of the delays in opening the polling stations. The election is largely between the ruling MPLA and opposition UNITA party. The International community has taken a particular interest in the voting after the recent election controversies in Kenya and Zimbabwe and Angola's emergence as a major oil producer.
