SECOND SET:
MURRAY V NADAL TO START AT 1730 BST. COVERAGE HERE AND ON 5 LIVE SPORTS EXTRA.
Djokovic 4-3 Federer
Federer gets the break back! Djokovic gets nervous at the wrong moment and slips break-point down, at which point he snatches at a forehand and stick it into the net.
Djokovic 4-2 Federer
Federer smacks ace number six to go to 30-0 and follows up with a forehand winner and another big serve for a love game.
Djokovic 4-1 Federer
Djokovic consolidates the break easily enough when Federer nets a forehand and this will be a test of the increasingly fragile Federer confidence.
Djokovic 3-1 Federer
Federer cannot control a heavy Djokovic backhand and puts his volley long to slip 0-30 down. Two points later the Serb forces a defensive lob and sticks away a smash for 15-40 and two more break points. Federer goes long with a backhand and it's a break for Djokovic, whose parents look relieved in the stands. Papa Djokovic reminds me a bit of Robert de Niro. Wasn't De Niro in Djokovic's box last year? Or did I dream that? Anyway...
Djokovic 2-1 Federer
Djokovic moves ahead again with a regulation service game and it's a low-key start to the second set.
1648: "In response to Jeff Tarango's comments (see 1642 entry), the weather in New York is a lot more volatile than in the UK!"

Djokovic 1-1 Federer
Federer is looking supreme on serve, moving to the net at one stage and chopping dead a backhand stop volley. Djokovic hits back with a beautiful forehand winner down the line and a backhand that does Federer at his feet like a yorker. Another forehand winner sees Djokovic back from 40-0 to deuce and Federer's under pressure for the first time today, but the Swiss comes up with a sublime backhand winner down the line and goes on to hold.
Djokovic 1-0 Federer
Djokovic gets off the mark with a solid service game and that should do him some good. He's been quietly finding his form in the last few games and there's a long way to go here.
FIRST SET:
Djokovic 3-6 Federer
Unforced errors have plagued Federer this year and it's a mark of how well he is playing today that after eight games he has made just two. There are worrying signs when he nets an easy forehand volley for 15-15 but he continues to serve superbly and wraps up the set with a classic big serve-big forehand combination.
Djokovic 3-5 Federer
Much better stuff from Djokovic now and Federer might be pushed to serve this one out. The Serb finishes off his service game with a clever backhand volley.
1632: "The weathermen here in the States aren't as good as they are in Britain - they don't really have it down. The organisers here are really in a pinch."
Jeff Tarango on 5 Live Sports Extra
Djokovic 2-5 Federer
Federer opens with the sweetest of drop volleys off the backhand side but Djokovic responds with a forehand around the net post that catches the Swiss sleeping at the net. Federer still takes the game to 15 when Djokovic nets a backhand.
Djokovic 2-4 Federer
Djokovic finally shows us what he's made of with a fine one-two punch on the forehand for 30-0 and sees out a love game.
Djokovic 1-4 Federer
A smooth ace down the centre line gives Federer an ace and a love service game, and the world number two - still sounds odd - has started in fantastic form.
1622: "The top 4 in the world. Fantastic. Murray to play The Fed in the final. Murray to take the title. I hope. C'mon the flying Scot."
From Phil, Baker St, via text on 81111
Djokovic 1-3 Federer
Federer opens with a crunching forehand winner and comes up with another scorcher down the line to get to 15-40 and two break points. The Swiss bludgeons away with some more incredible forehands and forces a wayward lob from Djokovic - the first break of the day.
1618: "This is a real rumble. Tennis is supposed to be all these nice guys but they're ready to kick dirt in each other's faces. Federer has a real air about him today, like 'this is my show, you've got to react to what I'm doing.'"
Jeff Tarango on 5 Live Sports Extra
Djokovic 1-2 Federer
A fizzing Djokovic backhand cross-court pass leaves Federer stranded at the net but the Swiss responds with a fierce backhand of his own at 30-30 that almost cuts the Serb in two. Federer holds.
Djokovic 1-1 Federer
Federer goes for a Hawkeye challenge on the second point and fails - he looks disgusted. Djokovic sees out the game easily enough. There is very little atmosphere on a half-full Arthur Ashe Stadium, which is probably due to the unusual 11am start time - very early for such a big match.
Djokovic 0-1 Federer
That was a very solid start from Federer, a couple of big serves followed up by easy winners and the champion looks very comfortable.
1608: "I think what we're going to see today is one of the all-time great champions up against one of the few people who can beat him. I will say Federer in three sets."
Jeff Tarango on 5 Live Sports Extra
1605: Great news! Djokovic is out on court knocking up, resplendent in lime green shorts, with Federer down the other end in his red and brown number, and the weather looks.... fine. What was all the fuss about?
1601: Afternoon all, and welcome to what should be one of the great days in tennis. However, the threat of a lengthy storm has left everyone uncertain as to how much we will get through today.
First up is defending champion Federer against last year's runner-up Djokovic in the opening men's semi. The second match should be Britain's very own Andy Murray against world number one Rafael Nadal, but if the weather is OK it seems likely that one will get under way on Louis Armstrong Court at 1700 BST. If that is the case, I'm afraid to say I will be abandoning Federer-Djokovic, although doing my best to keep you across what's happening on Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Finally, the women's final between Serena Williams and Jelena Jankovic is due to start at 0000 BST, but that one seems very vulnerable to the weather.
