Young people over 16 have the right to vote in some lands of the neighbouring Germany and Austria.
Stehlikova pointed out that the youth election turnout in Vienna was higher than the share of adult voters.
According to a recent poll conducted for the UNICEF Czech committee, 55 percent of Czech children are of the view that elections could change the situation in the country.
However, two-thirds of them have a feeling that they are not able to influence the situation since their opinions are not taken into consideration.
The poll also shows that 22 percent of children would like to participate in the decision-making about free-time activities in their municipality.
Eva Vanickova, head of the government committee for children's rights, says she considers it alarming that Czech children do not know their rights at all, which the poll has confirmed.
