raise people's interest in the Czech presidency, scheduled for the first half of 2009. "The goal of the campaign's first phase is to use original and amusing methods to draw the attention and interest of Czechs, a crushing majority of whom say they feel short of information about the presidency," the government said. The campaign is based on a witty story in which a lump of sugar, a Czech invention, plays a role. "We will make it sweet for Europe," this is the slogan of the campaign Prime Minister Mirek Topolanek (Civic Democrats, ODS) and other officials presented to journalists today. Topolanek said the ambiguous slogan, whose another meaning in Czech is "giving Europe a taste of its own medicine," should be mainly understood in its former, positive meaning. Billboards will appear across the country withing the campaign as of Friday. The campaign will cost 12 million crowns this year, Deputy PM for EU Affairs Alexandr Vondra (ODS) said. In November, the campaign's second phase will start.
