More than 3500 people died since January, mainly Taliban insurgents.The fighting claimed the lives of over 150 troops from international forces, including two Czechs, in 2008.The Czech Republic has 400 soldiers in the country, 200 of whom are deployed within the Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) in Logar province.
