Rival Cypriot leaders have relaunched negotiations to reunify the Mediterranean island.
Cyprus has been divided since a pro-Greek coup triggered Turkish invasion in 1974. Greek Cypriot President Demetris Christofias and his Turkish Cypriot counterpart Mehmet Ali Talat met at an abandoned airport compound inside a UN-controlled buffer zone that separates the two communities. Diplomatic sources said the talks were the most promising steps towards a breakthrough in decades. UN officials have said they will continue regular meetings over the divided Island on September 11.
