Shots have been fired at the motorcade of the Pakistani prime minister, Yousuf Raza Gilani. A government spokesman told reporters that shots were fired at the motorcade as it was travelling along the road from the capital, Islamabad, to the airport.
He said two of the shots, fired from an assault rifle, had hit the prime minister's car, but that the bullets had failed to penetrate the vehicle's armour. Some earlier reports said Gilani was in the vehicle at the time, but later accounts said the motorcade was on its way to the airport to pick him up. Terror attack 'would help McCain' ... responsibility for the shooting. Gilani is a senior member of the party of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto. She was killed in a suicide bombing while campaigning for a general election late last year.
