German Minister Wants More Troops in Afghanistan ... Afghanistan. Earlier, Jung visited Mazar-i-Sharif, home to the largest garrison of German troops in Afghanistan. In recent days, there have been several attacks on Bundeswehr soldiers, with a German non-commissioned officer killed one week ago. Jung also conveyed Germany's condolences over the deaths of an Afghan woman and two children, shot by German soldiers at a checkpoint near Kunduz. Germany has more than 3,000 troops in Afghanistan as part of a NATO-led force, mostly stationed in the north.
