Andreev 2-1 Federer
A strange old decision by the umpire allows Igor to challenge a shot despite continuing the rally. He wins the challenge too. Fed's not happy, understandably, but at least it wakes him up. He is up and running after wrong-footing the Russian with a lovely forehand winner.
"Here we go again, another embarassing start from Federer, he is going to get stuffed here."

Andreev 2-0 Federer
More textbook stuff from Igor sees him go 30-0 up with two clean winners - he can do no wrong it seems. Fed unleashes a couple of almost effortless forehands to level but Andreev is still attacking and two big serves see him hold.
Andreev 1-0 Federer
Blimey, a bad start for Fed who puts two backhands in the net before putting a forehand long to trail 15-40. Andreev then runs round a looping shot by the Fed to plant a forehand winner down - and on to - the line and he has only gone and broken the champion at the first attempt. The crowd on Arthur Ashe look a bit stunned to be honest.
2150: And we're off. Federer to serve first.
2148: Andreev has got a forehand to be reckoned with by the way but he had never been beyond the second round here before this year.
The winner of this match faces either fifth seed Nikolay Davydenko or qualifier Gilles Muller, from Luxembourg, in the last eight. Davydenko has just taken the second set and is level at 4-6 6-4.
2145: Fed, by the way, is yet to drop a set in his defence of his US Open title this year. He is up against Russia's Igor Andreev tonight - who is better known for his exploits on clay.
2139: Evening all. Well, Novak Djokovic has just booked his place in the last eight at Flushing Meadows - can Roger Federer join him?
