A conference aimed at improving the delivery of humanitarian aid world-wide has opened in the Ghanaian capital Accra.
Oxfam says money is too often misspent on international consultants and it has demanded that rich nations hand more distribution to developing nations. UNICEF says gains have been made in reducing child mortality and disease in Africa but liaison must be improved to get aid to people who need it most. Organisers of the three-day conference estimate that international donors give 120 billion dollars in aid each year. Attending are 1,200 representatives of developing nations, donors and civil society. In Paris three years ago donors and recipients set goals to improve accountability.
