The Civic Democratic Party (ODS, the senior coalition government party) has started pasting up billboards and placing ads in the press, presenting some steps taken by Prime Minister Mirek Topolanek, ODS leader. The ODS billboards stress the achievements in the spheres of pensions, health care and fire protection. The opposition Social Democrats (CSSD) are to use election vehicles in which candidates will attend public rallies.

Czech KSCM to partially leave Round Table on health care ... important place in the Czech national legends. The ODS will defend its landslide victory four years ago under the slogan "Our Region, My Home." Its financial manager Milan Bouska says it will spend 40-60 million crowns. Bouska said the candidates might cover a part of the campaign themselves. The Social Democrats have declined to disclose the amount they are about to spend. Party leader Jiri Paroubek said the CSSD would only publish it after the elections. Elections manager Jaroslav Tvrdik told the paper Pravo today the amount would oscillate between 50 and 100 million crowns. The Communists (KSCM) will spend 15 million crowns, party deputy chairwoman Vera Zezulkova said. Their campaign is waged under the slogan "Stop to Bad Reform." The Communists will fight against the transfer of hospitals to joint stock companies. The KSCM would like to increase the number of its senators from three to five, whereby it could establish an official group of senators. In regional authorities, the Communists would like to reach a result that would allow the creation of leftist coalition. The Greens will start their campaign after their weekend national congress. They are running for the first time in all regions. They insist on their usual "green" issues and they promise to publish the minutes from the local authorities' meetings and the votes on the Internet. The Greens want to enter the regional assemblies with their programme of support to mass transportation, environmental protection and construction of sewage treatment plants. The Greens have allotted 13 million crowns on the campaign. "The regional branches can add some more money. The final sum may reach about 20 million," Greens senior official Martin Ander has told CTK. The Christian Democrats, too, focus on regional issues such as public transport, health care, social care and regional development. Former successful jockey Josef Vana is to help them in the elections. The Christian Democrats have formed coalitions in six regions. They say they do not have any exact budget for the elections.
