Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas have met in Jerusalem for another round of peace talks. Israeli media said the two leaders would try to secure a preliminary deal to present to Washington next month.
The US-brokered peace talks have made little visible progress since they were relaunched last November. Israelis and Palestinians remain sharply divided on core issues. These include the final borders of a Palestinian state, the status of Jerusalem, the fate of millions of Palestinian refugees and the future of Jewish settlements in the Israeli-occupied territories.
