Iran's official IRNA news agency says about 4,000 centrifuges are now operating in Natanz's uranium enrichment plant.
That's according to an IRNA report quoting Deputy Foreign Minister Ali Reza Sheikh Attar, who visited Natanz last week. The minister also said that an additional 3,000 centrifuges were currently being installed at the site. Iran says it plans to move toward large-scale uranium enrichment that will ultimately involve over 50,000 centrifuges. Western powers fear Tehran wants to build an atomic bomb but Iran says it is developing nuclear technology only to generate electricity.
