German consumer confidence is at a five-year low, as economic worries and inflation sour the mood of shoppers in Europe's biggest economy.
A confidence index compiled by the GfK institute fell to 1.5 points from a revised 1.9 points in August. The deterioration of economic perspectives, and relentless price increases, have weighed heavily on household morale, the Nuremburg-based market research group GfK said. The GfK consumer index is the main measure of German consumer sentiment.
