The International Olympic Committee has delivered a positive assessment of the Olympic Games in Beijing.
IOC President Jacques Rogge described the Games as "truly exceptional". The 29th Olympics, which were concluded with a vast closing ceremony in Beijing on Sunday, drew some 11,000 athletes from over 200 nations. The Games were dominated by host nation China which took a comfortable lead in the medals table with 51 golds. However, the Games were overshadowed by human rights issues and die-hard doping suspicions that emerged in the wake of numerous world records. German minister urges China to enure human rights ... competing at the Games have tested positive for banned substances and none came from nations leading the medals table. Coinciding with the end of the Olympics, China has released 10 foreign activists, including eight Americans, one German and one British citizen. They were detained in Beijing last week after a wave of pro-Tibet protests.
