Czech deputy PM Cunek files complaint against judge ... head, in which it states in what issues its representatives would be interested at the planned meeting, the paper says. According to the paper, the embassy asks how the party makes its decisions, whether CSSD leader Jiri Paroubek decides on key issues by himself, and whether Paroubek would defend his position at the party's helm if the CSSD were not successful in the autumn regional and Senate elections. The embassy also asked questions related to the party's stance on the planned U.S.
radar base on Czech soil, Pravo writes. The CSSD is opposed to the radar project. Pravo says none of the CSSD politicians it addressed was willing to comment on the issue as it concerns an embassy of an allied country. Similar inquiries by embassies are nothing exceptional but it is inappropriate and amateurish to ask such questions in advance and in writing, the paper says, referring to information from diplomatic sources. Paroubek did not say whether he discussed the issue with U.S. ambassador Richard Graber whom he met last Thursday, Pravo writes. CSSD shadow foreign minister Lubomir Zaoralek told the paper that an embassy should not take any steps that would "interfere in the internal issues of political parties." Jan Hamacek (CSSD), the chairman of the lower house foreign committee, said he considered it "very non-standard" if the information on the letter from the U.S. embassy was true. Hamacek told Pravo that such a situation has never occurred during his political career, except for informal talks with people from embassies.
