Movement for Democratic Change secretary-general Tendai Biti said on Wednesday that his party had not consented to a reconvening of parliament before this was announced on Tuesday. According to a memorandun the MDC and the ruling ZANU-PF signed last month, parliament could not reconvene without mutual consent. South Africa has been mediating talks between the two sides after President Robert Mugabe was re-elected unopposed in June, in a vote condemned around the world and boycotted by MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai because of attacks on his supporters.
