The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe has failed to reach an agreement on whether to send more military observers to Georgia.
An OSCE representative told reporters that discussions on the issue would continue. Representatives of the organization's 56 member countries met in Vienna on Monday to discuss sending additional observers to the crisis region for a minimum of six months. Russia, which also is an OSCE member, reportedly objected to the immediate deployment of some 100 monitors. The Vienna-based organisation currently has 200 staff in the Georgian capital Tbilisi, including eight military observers.
