Hundreds of Muslim separatist rebels have attacked two towns in the Philippines south, killing more than 30 people.
The attack by guerillas from the Moro Islamic Liberation Front was the bloodiest since a territorial deal stalled earlier this month. Officials said dozens of civilians were used as human shields and some of them were shot dead by retreating rebels, who were driven out after a nine-hour battle with the military.
