Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt has broken the men's 100-metre world record, to clinch Olympic Gold in 9.69 seconds.
His former world record was 9.72 seconds. In the pool, Michael Phelps has equalled fellow American Mark Spitz's record of seven gold medals at one Olympics by taking the men's 100-metre butterfly. Meanwhile, Greece's Olympic women's 400 metres hurdles champion, Fani Halkia, has failed a drugs test according to Olympic officials, and will be unable to defend her title.
