Russia has reacted with anger to a deal that will allow the United States to station part of an anti-missile shield in Poland. President Dimitry Medvedev told reporters at a press conference in Sochi that the shield was directed at Russia.

Senior Polish and US officials have signed a preliminary agreement to let the US place 10 interceptor missiles on the Baltic coast. This comes in exchange for a pledge by Washington to boost Poland's own air defences.
