Following their talks in the Black Sea resort of Sochi, Merkel said some of Russia's actions in Georgia had been excessive and that the presence of Russian soldiers in the country was not a good idea. She called for Russian troops to be withdrawn from Georgia proper and for a six-point peace plan to be implemented without delay. The chancellor added that Georgia's territorial integrity must be the point of departure for any long-term plan on bringing peace to the region.
