Turkey's interior minister says several suspects have been arrested in connection with a deadly bombing plot which claimed 17 lives and left over 150 others injured in Istanbul last week.
Besir Atalay said most of the perpetrators were in custody, but declined to say exactly how many people had been arrested. The two explosions, minutes apart, hit a packed square in Istanbul last Sunday. Officials had already said they suspected the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) guerrilla group was behind the attack. The PKK has denied involvement. The rebel group took up arms in 1984 with the aim of establishing an ethnic homeland in the southeast of the country.
