Chinese President Hu Jintao has held a rare press conference to deflect criticism of media restrictions in China ahead of the Beijing Olympics.
With just one week to go before the games open, Hu said China would stand by its pledges to lift Internet censorship for the Olympics. He also called on the international community to keep politics out of the sports event. The comments come in the wake of a row over this week's allegations that the International Olympic Committee cut a deal with Chinese officials to limit journalists' access to certain websites which Beijing deems sensitive.
