As many as 99 people have been infected in Prague since January, while in the past two years, there were 36 and 13 cases respectively, Jagrova said. Hepatitis A is dubbed the jaundice of dirty hands. People should devote more effort to personal hygiene and be vaccinated against the infection, Jagrova said. "About 60 percent of those infected have some links with the drug using community," Jagrova said. The incubation period of the disease is long, 15 to 50 days, she added. The number of cases of hepatitis A is ten times higher in Prague than in Central Bohemia and 30 times higher than in other regions. In mid-July, a vaccination campaign was started in the risk community of drug addicts. Along with field workers and contact centers staff, the town hall has been distributing information leaflets to the drug addicts since Friday. It brings information on where and when they can be vaccinated, on the symptoms of the disease and how they can get infected. The Health Ministry has provided 1500 vaccines that are free for drug users.

One combined preventative vaccine against the hepatitises A and B costs 900-1500 crowns. Three vaccines must be applied.
