counterpart Condoleezza Rice on July 8. The treaty is yet to be ratified by Czech parliament where support for it is not sure, however. The base is to be part of the U.S. anti-missile shield that the United States says will protect its territory and a big part of Europe against missiles that countries like Iran might launch. Fewer people (49 percent) consider it important that the treaty would enhance the country's security and that the radar would become part of the current NATO system (40 percent). Hartl said this order of priorities is surprising. He said it probably reflects the exceptional attention media has paid to the influence of the radar on people's health in the base vicinity and on the environment. The poll was conducted on 1045 people over 18.
