German Chancellor Angela Merkel has held talks with visiting Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki in Berlin, focusing mainly on strengthening economic ties between the two countries.
Earlier, upon his arrival in the German capital, the Iraqi premier was welcomed by Merkel with full military honours. Al-Maliki's two-day visit follows close on the heels of a visit this month by Economy Minister Michael Glos to Baghdad. That visit was meant to signify Germany's strong interest in reviving economic and business ties.
