Spanish police have arrested eight people in an operation against a unit of the Basque separatist group ETA.
The arrests were made in Spain's Basque region, in and around the northern Spanish city of Bilbao. The unit is believed to have carried out a number of attacks, including the bombing of a police barracks in Legutiano in May, in which one officer died. The arrests follow four bomb explosions in two popular northern holiday resorts over the weekend that were claimed by ETA. ETA has been blamed for killing more than 820 people since 1968 in its campaign for an independent Basque state.
