UN Security Council calls for Burma referendum to respect political freedoms ... condemned Monday's bomb attack on India's embassy in the Afghan capital Kabul. A suicide bomber driving an explosives-laden car killed 41 people, including an Indian military attache and Afghans waiting for visas. The blast, which also injured 140 others, was the deadliest in Kabul since US-led and Afghan forces toppled the Taliban in 2001. The Security Council said the attack was a "reprehensible act of terrorism".
So far, no-one has claimed responsibility. The council also expressed concern about Taliban insurgency and drug traffickers. NATO, which has more than 50,000 troops deployed to assist Afghanistan's government, said the bombing was a "clear attempt" to undermine regional relations. India has close ties with the Afghan government and funds large infrastructure projects. India's rival Pakistan also condemned the attack and denied any involvement.
