East Timorese lawmakers say President Jose Ramos-Horta has accepted the United Nations' top human rights job.
Horta is expected to announce the decision later in the day. There's been no official annoucement from the United Nations so far. The Nobel laureate would replace Canadian Louise Arbour as the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights after she steps down at the end of this month. Horta became President of East Timor in May of last year. The 58-year-old Horta survived an apparent assassination attempt by renegade soldiers in Dili earlier this year.
