Britain is to delay definitive ratification of the European Union's reform treaty, only days after parliament approved its adoption. British Prime Minister Gordon Brown said the UK could not ratify the treaty until the country's High Court ruled on a legal challenge to hold a referendum on the treaty.
The High Court rebuked the government on Friday for its attempt to ratify the treaty ahead of next week's expected ruling. The British parliament was the first national assembly in the EU to approve the Lisbon Treaty since Irish voters rejected it last week.
