Turkish warplanes have bombed separatist Kurdish rebels in neighbouring northern Iraq.
The Turkish army said the raid had targeted PKK positions in the Zap area, close to Turkey's border with Iraq. No further details were given. The military has launched several aerial cross-border attacks on suspected rebel positions in northern Iraq this year. It also staged a major ground operation against rebel bases there in February. The Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK, has been fighting for self-rule in southeastern Turkey since 1984, mostly from bases in northern Iraq. The violence has killed tens of thousands of people.
