The Global Media Forum has wrapped up here in Bonn with a call for media organisations to do more to help prevent armed conflicts and promote peace.
Deutsche Welle Director-General Erik Bettermann also used his speech to express concern about threats to press freedom around the world. He said two thirds of the world's population didn't have access to free domestic media. He also noted that a growing concentration of control of media in industrialised nations was leading to subtle forms of self-censorship. The three-day-long Global Media Forum attracted almost 1,000 journalists and media managers from around 100 countries.
