A government source in Colombia has reported that the commander and founder of Colombia's FARC rebel force is dead.
The death of Manuel Marulanda, known as Sureshot, who organised the Marxist-inspired Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia guerrilla force in the 1960's, would be the heaviest blow suffered by Latin America's oldest surviving insurgency. The report has however not been confirmed and the commander has been wrongly reported to have died on numerous occasions previously.
