The survey was conducted in 31 EU countries, Croatia and Turkey. Finland and Sweden have the most retrained workforce, while Turkey and Bulgaria the least. People with university education have more often the chance of upgrading their skills, Vermeylen said, adding that this widened the gap between the qualification of the people with higher and lower education. In general, Czechs tend to be satisfied with their working conditions (80 percent). On the other hand, Czechs are surprisingly pessimistic.

Czechs are also more sceptical than the rest of Europe when it comes to their salaries. One-third of Czechs consider them consistent with their effort, while the EU average is 47 percent. The agency pointed to the general European trend of constant increase in the intensity of work. In 1990, almost 40 percent Europeans said they never had to work under pressure and fast, but the figure plummeted to the mere 20 percent by 2005. Seventy percent of Czechs complain about the significant working stress, which was the third place behind Finns (73.6 percent) and Swedes (71.7 percent).
