20.05.2008 - Czech students against teaching hospital transformation

Six activists unveiled the poster saying "No to hazarding teaching hospitals" at the Vyton rail bridge while representatives of the student initiative that organised the event were distributing leaflets among participants in the meeting explaining the reasons for their protest. Julinek has questioned the event, pointing out that students should support progress and not to fight against it. "I would have been glad if they had abandoned the idea of the protest after our talks on Thursday that lasted four hours," Julinek said. The protest, that is held under the motto "Stop university hospitals without universities," is the culmination of the whole week of students' protests. He said he wanted to explain his plans. Julinek will hold the next round of talks with representatives of students and universities on the future of teaching hospitals in Olomouc, north Moravia, on May 26. Julinek said students and university officials had misunderstood his plans. He said though universities would hold only 34 percents of shares in the university hospitals the state that would hold 66 percent would not be able to override their representatives in decision-making because the consent of two-thirds of the board would be necessary to make any decision.
