Meanwhile, Iraqi forces have detained more than 1,000 suspects in and around the northern city of Mosul. The operation, which was supervised by Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, was an attempt to crush the al-Qaeda terror network in northern Iraq. US military officials say says Mosul is al-Qaeda's last major urban stronghold in Iraq.
