US intelligence officials said they were sceptical about the arrest of Muhajir, even though Iraqi officials said he was already in US military custody. Iraqi officials have already reported his death three times and his capture twice over the past two years. Muhajir, an Egyptian also known as Abu Ayyab al-Masri, was a close associate of the Jordanian militant and former head of al-Qaida in Iraq, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi who was killed in a US air strike in June 2006.
