One day after relinquishing the presidency, Vladimir Putin has overwhelmingly been confirmed by the Russian parliament as prime minister.
In a speech to the Duma before the vote, Putin said he would take action to curb high inflation and cut taxes. New Russian President, Dmitry Medvedev, told MPs that his and Putin's work together would grow stronger over time. Putin's move to the second most powerful office in Russia is to keep him politically prominent and could serve as a springboard back to the presidency.
