Czech-U.S. radar treaty to include chapter on link with NATO ... the U.S. radar on Czech soil is a man with secondary education who lives in a town with more than 100,000 inhabitants. The opponents of the radar are mainly elderly women with basic education, according to SC&C. Nine in ten Czechs admit that the most important task of any government is the state security. Eight in ten Czechs believe that European countries should build defence systems in order to prepare for possible threats. People's disapproval of the radar base the USA wants to build in the Brdy military district, 90 km southwest of Prague, was previously confirmed by other public opinion polls. In a CVVM poll released in March, two-thirds of Czechs were opposed to the radar plan. The Czech Republic and the USA started to negotiate about the radar more than one year ago. Negotiations on one of the two treaties concerned have already been completed, while the talks about the other are still underway. It is not yet known when the treaties are to be signed. After being signed, they will be submitted to Czech parliament.
