Steinbauer is serving a 13-year prison sentence for the second murder of a girl aged 16. He had been acquitted of the charges that he strangled a woman, 24, for lack of proof.

It returned the case to the regional court and ordered the review of indirect evidence. Steinbauer strangled to death a woman with a handbag belt in January 2003, most probably for money. In April 2006, Steinbauer was sentenced to 13 years in prison for having strangled to death a student, aged 16, with a ribbon in 2004.
